Understanding and Management Functions
A. Definition of Management ( Definition of Management )
Management word comes from Old French Menagement , which means the art of implementing and regulating . Management does not yet have an established definition and universally accepted . The word probably comes from the management of Italy ( 1561 ) maneggiare which means " control , " especially " to control the horse " is derived from the Latin word manus which means " hand " . This word of French influenced Manege which means " horse ownership " ( which is derived from the English language that means the art of controlling the horse ) , where the English term is also derived from the Italian language .
French and adopt this word from English into menagement , which means the art of implementing and regulating . Mary Parker Follett , for example , defines management as the art work done through others . This definition means that a manager responsible for managing and directing others to achieve organizational goals . Ricky W. Griffin defines management as a process of planning , organizing, coordinating , and controlling resources to achieve the objectives (goals ) effectively and efficiently .
Effective means that the goal can be achieved in accordance with the planning , while efficiently means that the task at hand done correctly , organized , and in accordance with jadwal.Istilah management , translation in Indonesian until now there is no uniformity .Furthermore , when we study the management literature , it will be found that the term management contains three terms, namely :
1 . Management as a process
2 . Management as a collectivity of people who perform management activities
3 . Management as an art ( Art ) and as a science ( Science )According to the first sense , the management as a process , the different definitions given by experts .
To show the definition of the color management system according to the first sense , the proposed three definitions .In Encyclopaedia of the Social Sience said that management is a process by which the implementation of an organized and supervised a particular purpose .From the figure above shows that management is comprised of the A state indicated by the line ( line ) leads to the process of planning , organizing , leadership and control , which are four processes each have their respective functions to achieve organizational goals .
B. Management Functions
In Management management functions are closely related in it . In general there are four functions of management are widely known to the public that the planning function ( planning) , function organizing ( organizing ) , the function of the direction ( directing ) and the control function ( controlling) . For organizing functions , there is also the function of staffing ( staff establishment ) . The managers in the organization of business enterprises are expected to master all of the functions of the existing management to get the maximum management .Below will explain the meaning of the definition or understanding of each management function - POLC :
1 . Function Planning / PlanningThe function of planning is an activity to make the company's goals and followed by making various plans to achieve the intended purpose .
2 . Function Organizing / OrganizingPerngorganisasian function is a regulatory activity on human resources and other physical resources of the company to carry out a predetermined plan and achieve corporate goals .
3 . Directing Function / Directing / LeadingFunction is a function of leadership directing managers to improve the effectiveness and efficiency to the fullest and creating a healthy working environment , dynamic , and so forth .
4 . Control function / control,The control function is an activity to assess the performance based standards that have been made for changes or improvements made later if necessary .
